About Dr. Kimberlyn R. Atherton

Dr. Atherton has a true passion for dentistry. She spends many hours each year attending continuing education to learn the latest and most advanced technologies for her patients.

Her qualifications and achievements include:

• Invisalign certification
• Training at the California Implant Institute
• Membership in the Virginia Dental Association
• Membership in the Academy of General Dentistry
• Membership in the American Dental Associaton (ADA)

Dr. Atherton was born in Detroit, Michigan. She received her undergraduate and dental degrees from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. After completing her dental education in 1990, she served as a dentist in the United States Air Force for three years.

She practiced in the Detroit metropolitan area for seven years, during which time she was dental director for a large group practice. In 2000, Dr. Atherton moved with her family to the New River Valley, where she has been a Blacksburg dentist for the last 10 years.

When she’s not working, Dr. Atherton enjoys working out, cooking, and travel. She has been married for 12 years to husband Hulannie and the couple has two children.

About the Staff

Crystal Roberts – Financial Coordinator
Crystal has over eight years of dental experience and she is dedicated to continuing education. She and her husband have lived in the New River Valley for nine years and have two children. In her free time, Crystal enjoys going to Virginia Tech football games and watching her children play sports. Crystal loves meeting and working with patients.

Yvonne Bedsaul – Dental Assistant

Yvonne has been in the dental field for more than 22 years. She attended Wytheville Community College while working in dental offices part-time in Wytheville and Galax.

She left dentistry to work in insurance for almost two years, but her love of dentistry brought her back to a dental office in Wytheville where she worked for 16 years before going to work for Dr Atherton. Yvonne is proud and happy to be working for Dr. Atherton in an office that is professional and patient-oriented.

Crystal Davis- Dental Hygienist

Crystal has been a registered dental hygienist for six years. She attended Wytheville Community College and has lived in the New River Valley for her entire life. Crystal loves being a hygienist and working with Dr. Atherton’s.

Tara Reynolds- Hygiene Assistant

Tara has worked in the dental field for two-and-a-half years. She has lived in the New River Valley for her entire life. She is married and has a son. In her spare time, she likes to go to new places, try new things and go shopping. Tara loves working with Dr. Atherton and her co-workers and she loves meeting and working with patients.

Erica – Appointment Coordinator

Erica attended Virginia Wesleyan College for journalism and communications. She and her husband moved from Virginia Beach to the New River Valley in 2006. Before working for Dr. Atherton and, she worked for a large dental firm in Virginia Beach.

She ran and operated a cook-your-own steakhouse in Hampton Roads for 18 years before entering the dental field. She enjoys cooking, traveling, watching football (she is a Dallas Cowboys fan) and keeping up with her one-and-a-half-year-old daughter. Erica loves meeting and working with patients.
